THE "TINELLO"
Our hotel disposes of an ancient wine cellar placed in the medieval centre of Genzano (1 km from diana Park Hotel) a small town with ancient rural traditions specialized on the production of famous D.C C wines (controlled denominations wines) such as Frascati Colli Lanuvini Marino and others.
The cellar "TINELLO" was built during XVII century and since then it has always been used to preserve the wine obtained from the grape pressing. Infact, after the drawing off process the precious liquid was poured into chestnut wooden barrels, stowed in big niche built in the cellar basement the ideal place to preserve the wine for humidity and temperature.
The cellar has a surface of 200 square meters and can hold about 100 people. Inside, there is an exhibition of ancient tools once used to produce the wine, so the expert can admire barrels, a wine press, a manual weighing machine and other equipments which represented, and in some cases still represent, the tools used for the production of this ancient and famous product on Earth.
We organize wine testíng with typical products of this area, lunch or dinner, with musical entertainment of folk-groups playing famous songs of Castelli Romani.
We usually offer the tasting of white, red and rose wine of Colli Lanuvini (area around Genzano) with home-made bread cheese ant local dressed pork products, the famous roast suckling pig, a typical dish of Ariccia and home-made sweets.
So, the guests can appreciate a suggestive and characteristic atmosphere, reflecting the ancient and rich traditions of this area.
GENZANO
The origin of the name "Genzano" is uncertain, but the most commonly accepted opinion draws it from "Cinthianum, Fanum Cinthianum" due to the existence, in these places, of a temple dedicated to the goddess Diana or Cinthia. The hill where the village is situated was in the past the site of several roman villas, where there are at least four of them; one of these belonged to the Emperor Antonino Pio (born in Lanuvio, a village with a very ancient history, about five or six kilometres from Genzano); in Genzano lived Commodo, the emperor fond of gladiatorial games and Marco Aurelio, the philosopher-emperor fond of Hellenic civilisation. What makes Genzano famous all over the world, rather than its ancient history or buildings, is an ancient yet constantly renewing event, a result of the intelligence and devotion of its inhabitants: the "Infiorata" (Flower fair). This event has been celebrated yearly, in June, the day of the Corpus Domini, since June 1778, when the brothers Arcangelo and Nicola Leofreddi wished to celebrate the sacred day with flowers.
THE SHIPS OF NEMI'S LAKE
The area to the south of Rome especially the Roman Castles, is full of historical memories and many are the archaeological sites. However the place where ancient history is more evident and the atmosphere itself is a reminder of the past, is the Lake of Nemi with the famous Roman Ships Museum. In this background we can locate the presence of the Roman ships from Nemi. All through the Middle Ages they were shrouded in mystery and subjects of fantastic stories told by the fishermen of this place: two huge hulls were sunk near the western shore of the lake; huge treasures were kept in their hold, and monsters would forbid anybody to come near.
Main Airport
Fiumicino Leonardo da Vinci airport is about 40 Km from Diana Park Hotel and CIAMPINO airport is about 24 km.
Main routes of arrival to diana Park Hotel
The diana Park Hotel is about 35 Km from the centre of Rome. The easiest way to reach the hotel from Rome is to take the Via Appia and follow the instructions for Albano-Velletri up to Genzano - famous and delicious "Genzano bread" -. There you meet a cross-road for Nemi where you have to turn on your left. Another way is the Via dei Laghi which reaches Marino and then go to Nemi and down to the hotel.

Annotations about the four stars Diana Park Hotel in Nemi - Castelli Romani near Rome - travellers and tourists say about us:
"Enjoyed our stay very much although one small criticism was that the bar was never opened during our stay which would have been nice. Receptionist was really helpful and a lovely friendly girl."
"We had a high-celinged room with slightly oppressive decor, no desk, semi-attached hangers, some water damage on walls; noisy because located near maids' closet; good shower. We looked out on a large deck (entered from out in the hall) and across the lake at Nemi. The hotel is located between Nemi and Genzano. If you're coming from Nemi, the driveway is hard to see and turn into. The restaurant was reasonably good, if not exciting. Despite its name & the chestnuts pelting the cars in the lot, there were no chestnuts on the menu. Breakfast was lean until a large group arrived, but by asking one could get huge delicious pears. The hotel staff was pleasant and helpful."
"Your restaurant is very good in taste. Especially, I like to eat again "penne with orange sauce" and olives are very delicious. That kind of fine olives cannot be found in Japan. And thank you, especially for the server. He is kind and helpful."
"This is a wonderful place to stay when first arriving at Rome airport. It is close but in the countryside with a wonderful restaurant. A great place to recuperate from long flights. The staff was wonderful, I highly recommend it."

Annotations about Bed and Breakfast L'Elce BB in Velletri - Castelli Romani - travellers and tourists say about us:
"Accommodation is basic but clean and in keeping with the surroundings. Hospitality of host and staff excellent and food available any time."
"Trés bel endroit, presque magique si l'on cherche le calme et la tranquilité, mais difficile à trouver surtout lorsqu'on arrive de nuit. Acceuil trés chaleureux et prestations parfaites."
"We enjoyed our stay very much. The host, Valerio and family were very accommodating and helpful at all times. The B&B (old villa)is located in a very guiet country setting and 45 minutes to Rome by train. We had made our reservations for the L'Elce but ended up at the Il Casale B&B (associated with Colle Ionci) The actual address is 77 Via Acqua Lucia for Il Casale and 74 for the L'Elce B&B. Hard to locate for our first time to the Velletri area. Via Acqua Lucia is off S7(Via Appian Nord)from Velletri towards Rome. Turn right after Audi dealer or right again just after Alpha Romeo dealer and small local grocery and pizzeria. The owners also serve very good Italian meals, which is great after exploring Roma all day. Ask Valerio for the B.I.R.G. day transportation ticket and driving directions to the local train station. Enjoy."
"Though more spartan than luxurious we found the accommodation clean and comfortable and facilities adequate for our needs. Although we arrived fairly late in the evening the host provided a hot 4 course meal for us at very little notice which we all thoroughly enjoyed. We found the property had a good deal of old world charm and we liked the rural setting. It's very conveniently located for a first stop from the airport when arriving and indeed we chose to stay again for the last night of our holiday due to the convenience for Rome airport."
"The best place we stayed on our entire trip in Italy! Service and food was excellent and reasonably priced. Maria and staff were very welcoming and hospitable! Thanks to Valario, Maria, Katarina, Julio, and Mateo for showing us a great time in Velletri. The surroundings were very quaint. We will definetly return!"
"This was the perfect place for us. The centre of a thriving creative group, with a grand piano and wonderful people. By the end of our stay Valeriano was more than a host, he was a friend. When we were stranded in Rome (Notte Bianca Sept), he drove in to get us at 1.30 am. Altogether a peaceful haven from the hustle and bustle of travel. Very special."
"Our favorite place to stay during our Italian vacation. Excellent, welcoming staff. The restaurant served the best food we had in Italy. Beautiful countryside location, like a scene in a movie. The owner was so charming and helpful."
"I made this reservation without having heard of L'Elce and was very happy with the price and service. At 70 euros a night one can't expect bottles of shampoo and conditioner, but the room was spotless and the host couldn't have been more pleasant. Also, the breakfast was very good - eggs to order and this in a country where a croissant and coffee are considered breakfast. We'll definitely return."
"I loved staying at L'Elce. The rooms are basic but it is only bed and breakfast. However he style is lovely, the upkeep is very good and the price reasonable. One word of warning. Better in spring than summer as there is no air conditioning. Also the grounds are greener and even more lovely in spring. Even so, the surroundings are beautiful at any time and the hospitality of the host and staff wonderful. I fully intend to return on a regular basis."

Annotations about Bed and Breakfast Il Casale di Colle Ionci BB in Velletri - Castelli Romani - travellers and tourists say about us:
"We stayed for 3 nights in August and have to agree with another reviewer that it is very hot without air conditioning if not used to it. The proprietor, Valerio, was most welcoming and very helpful at all times and luckily speaks good English too. The rooms we had are probably best described as rustic in style, but were quite charming and very clean. I was very impressed that the beds are made each day and did not expect that on a B&B basis. Breakfast - you have to walk 100m to another house for this - was fresh and plentiful the first day we had it, but much less was offered on the next, which is odd. I have no doubt that more would have been forthcoming had we felt hungry (and strongly) enough to ask for it! One real criticism is the directions if taking the Lake Road - which is lovely - as the property is very difficult to find based on the current website info. I discussed this with Valerio and he said he would change the directions, but 7 days on from our stay I see he has not. In a nutshell, stay on the lake road until you hit a T-junction at Velletri, turn right (sign Roma) and go about 2km and look out for Via Acqua Lucia hidden on the right half way round a right hand bend (which comes just after an Audi Dealership on the left). Go straight up and the houses are clearly numbered about 500m up the road. I would definitely recommend staying here if you want a charming antidote to the modern hotels of this world and will stay there again, I hope."
"The service and friendlenes of the staff was exceptional, they had plenty of time for us and nothing was too much trouble. The food was very Italian, no tourist rubbish. We really enjoyed our stay and we will definatly go again."
